COURSE INFORMATION

This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services.

 

In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard.

 

They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff. Learning from industry experts, your child care training will cover topics essential to your career in child care such as: understanding child development and learning, culture and diversity in the child care setting, health and safety for children and designing and implementing educational programs.

 

In addition, you will gain exposure to leadership and management practices to support your future career progression.

This course covers a wide range of important knowledge and skills you may need to be a successful education leader in children’s services, shaping the lives of future generations. The Diploma may provide you with essential management and leadership skills, including child care programming and planning, working with families, the community and your team.

Duration

The course duration is typically 1-2 years. Students generally have around 7 contact hours per week for classes/tutorial, and should set aside 8 -10 hours per week for personal study time. Assessment types vary, but can include demonstrations, knowledge tests, observations, case studies, reports, projects and presentations.

Entry requirements

Must have completed CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and care or CHC30113. All clients enrolling in this course will be over the age of 15 and literate in both written and spoken English.

Pathways into qualifications

Upon successful completion of the CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, students may gain employment in the Early Childhood Education and Care industry or enrol at a tertiary institution in a related Bachelor degree course.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy

All students will be assessed on their Language, Literacy and Numeracy needs and will be provided with extra tuition and support if the institute deems necessary.

Training and assessment methods

 

Online, Classroom and self-directed learning as well as work placement Assessment Learners will be assessed through written, research and workplace throughout the course There are no final exams. All assessment tasks are able to be completed within the current place of employment, or, within any recognised child care facility as a volunteer worker. Students can enrol directly into this course.
